Gyratory type shaker is driven by FHP motor through a reduction gear suitable to carry up to 7 sieves of 20 cm diameter. When clamped the sieve table does not rotate but it is inclined from the vertical axis and the direction of inclination changes progressively in the clockwise direction. In addition to the gyratory motion of the shaker, there is an upward and downward movement ensuring that each square inch of the sieve is utilized. The whole mechanism runs in an oil bath. A time switch from 0-60 minutes is provided.

The actual sieving action imparts a circular motion to the material being sieved so that it makes a slow progression over the surface of the sieve. At the same time, a rapid vertical movement agitates the sample which assists in clearing the apertures to minimise blinding of sieve apertures. The microprocessor controlled instrument is sturdy with easy user-friendly menu and reproducible results ensure smooth and noise free operation. The particles are accelerated in the vertical & horizontal direction. In the air they carry out free rotations and interact with the openings in the mesh of the sieve when they fall back. If the particles are smaller than the openings, they pass through the sieve. If they are larger, they are thrown upwards again. The Rotating motion while suspended increases the probability that the particles present a different orientation to the mesh when they fall back again and thus might eventually pass through the mesh.
